Everything Changed

2024

This series is a summation of and reflection on the intensive changes that the world underwent in 2020 and 2021, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The artist sees this period as “a moment when the earth stopped and breathed.” It led her to reflect on the extent to which humans had become disconnected from nature, and so she sought to re-establish that connection through her works. The materials used for the series, which was created during the height of the pandemic, were collected from different natural environments in the United Arab Emirates, where the artist lives and works.

The names of the paintings in this series are of Quechua origin, the native language of Cordero’s home country Ecuador. "Everything Changed" imparts a message of valuing what God has given us, and an attempt to give back to the world what we have taken from it. Through the naming of each artwork, Ana Liz shows her respect and admiration of the Quechua culture, with its emphasis on care and conservation.
